Apple 20HD external hard drives/ Plugs into floppy port 35.00
And while I'm at it, I hear that there was an external HD that
could plug
into the floppy port, called HD20, or something. Is this the right
name,
and any suggestions for used places I might call to see if I can get
one?
Anyone want to sell one from this group?
I have purchased items from him, but have no other interest.

I just recently bought the original Apple Scanner (4 bit gray,
uses a green
lamp). I was able to get the extension Scanner 3.0, HyperScan 2.0.1,
and
AppleScan 1.0.2. The problem is that AppleScan does not do
grayscale
correctly. I get an inversed image with colored vertical lines and
all sorts
of funky things. Threshold and Line Art works fine. AppleScan, unless
I am
mistaken, is not 32 bit clean. It hasn't crashed on my Mac (see
below), but
I can't do grayscale and I really don't want to take the chance of
running
with a dirty program. Does anyone know of any other software to use
with the
scanner? I am aware that Ofoto 2.0.2 will work and am considering
buying it,
but a cheaper option would be more acceptable.
What about hardware upgrades? I heard that there was an upgrade to
make it
do 256 grays. Price? Where to buy it?

My sister's neighbor has a Plus with a monitor proble. Seems it
has only
a thin white line across the bottom of the monitor. Any ideas on
what
this could be I have a power supply and a CRT that I could install
in
it if necessary.
Thanks!

I got a copy of this on the MacWorld CD (Jan 97) called Ultimate
Media
Jam. I searched diligently for a Liscence agreement to no avail, so
it
looks like it can be distributed. I'll probably put it on my web page
if
they say I can. PPC native as well as 68k. 3 megs of ram PLUS email
and
newsgroups built-in! Very cool!

Subject: E-mail on a System 6 Classic ?
From: Gregoire SEITHER
Hello Classics !
I have recently bought from a friend a Mac Classic 4/40 and
would like to
donate it to our Primary School Project. The teachers were wondering
if
they could receive E-mail with it.
Who knows about software for Email and browsing that would run
on System
6 ? (I do not want to put System 7 on the Mac as it only has 4 Megs
of
RAM). Does Mac Web 1.1.1 run on System 6 ?
Alos, I have a 9800 Mac modem (french brand DIAPASON, says on
the box
its HAYES compatible) I could donate but have no software to run it.
Does
anyone know what could do the trick and where I could get it ?
Would RAM Doubler 1.6.1 run on this oldie ?
Thanks for your help.
Gregoire
System 7.0.1 uses 1.5 megs, leaving 2.5 megs for apps. I
wouldn't
hesitate putting 7.0.1 on a Plus considering all the system 7 apps
that
will still run under 2.5 megs. There are tons.
And no, ram doubler won't work. You don't need it anyway. I hate
that
kinda stuff. Check out
Http://www.eden.com/~arena/jagshouse/Shareware.html
for details on how
I got my Plus on the web under system 7.0.1
I would like to build an Emergengy Start-up Disk for my Mac LC
which
contains some disk utilities other than just Disk First Aid. The
other
utilities I want to include will need about 650KB on the floppy. The
Disk
Tools disk I have from Apple has a version of System 7.5 on it
which
occupies 1.1MB of floppy space leaving not enough room for the
other
utilities I want to include. I searched the Apple Support FTP sites
and
found some older system 6.0X versions etc. but they won't boot my LC.
When
I try, the floppy is just ejected and the machine then boots normally
from
the system (7.5) on my hard drive. I've also tried some of the
system
versions from the site
ftp://ftp.mtn.org/pub/users/jbipes/
recently
posted by Jeff Bipes, and they also fail to boot my LC.
Can anyone point me to a source of a smaller system version that
will start
up my Mac LC but will take up only about 600KB - 700KB on the floppy?
Is
there a version of system 7 that is small enough? If so where can I
find
it? Does such a thing even exist?
I will summarize results.
David
Hi all!
I'm the proud owner of a IIci and SE both fully populated with 1Mb
30-pin
SIMMs.
It was suggested to me by a friend that I could find a converter
that would
let me use the cheaper 72-pin SIMMs in the IIci - has anyone heard of
this?
Is it feasible? Being a little dubious I thought I'd consult the
Classic
Mac hive mind :-)
Thanks!
I Have a Mac II. Running system 7.5.5 and 8 Meg of Ram. I have
installed
MODE32 v 7.5
When I try to install RamDoubler 2.0 I get a message telling me I
need A
MMU chip.
Upon looking at the processor board I can't find the 68851 chip,
but I also
see no empty sockets. Assuming I can find a MMU, do I have to
remove
something to install it, or what?
Thanks,
Bob Poland
For those of you who got the CDROM on Multimedia in the rcent
issue of
MacWorld, a little perusal will reveal a complete installer for
version 2.0
of MacWeb sitting right there, as pretty as you please
The CD is entitled the "MacWorld Multimedia Jam". It came in my
most
recdent issue of MacWorld, but I honestly can't find it to tell you
which
month it was.
Look around a bit, It could pay dividends.
If you've got the CD, check the "applications for viewing" folder
inside
the "ultimate media jam" folder, or do a quick find with the Find
File.
The installer will easily copy to a 1.4 floppy, but is just a
little too
large for an 800K disk. It could be copied to floppy via Norton
Fastback,
and reassembnled on a hard drive of the machine which requires 800K
disks.
It takes 2MB to run though, so I'm not sure how much good it will do
you.
If you've got 4MB of RAM, you should be OK,

I spent the better part of the afternoon yesterday trying to hook
up
my old Stylewriter II to my even older Mac (128k lovingly upgraded
by
hand to a 1 meg Plus). Because this is the original logic board I
can't add any more memory and therefore run system 6. Every time
I
installed the Stylewriter driver the system blew up with bomb #2
then
bomb #15. This happened with or without 32-bit Quickdraw.
Is there anyone out there that has successfully gotten a
Stylewriter
to run with a Plus?
Does anyone know where I can purchase Comapct Virtual from
Connectix Corp
? I tried through Connectix and also Micro Mac Tech with no luck.
Micro
Mac is having a problem with Connectix so they no longer are able
to
supply it.

Question is, does v2 still run on our old Macs? Is it still
lean and mean?
And has anyone put it on the net for download? Non-US netters won't
be able
to get hold of the US Macworld very easily (we have our own
edition).
Anybody out there tried it yet, or know where it can be found?
First of all, the official word from TradeWave. You can find
this and
more at
http://www.einet.net/EINet/MacWeb/MacWebHome.html.
To quote:
"TradeWave presently is distributing winWeb and MacWeb only as
part of our
new corporate product offering, TradeVPI. We released our first
version of
TradeVPI (virtual private Internet) on April 1. TradeVPI provides
an
applications platform for building and operating corporate intranets
and
electronic commerce solutions.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this decision might cause
people who
have been using the browsers."
Now, the interesting part is that I actually have seen the
browser. I
work for an ISP. We get our software packages from a company
called
UsefulWare
http://www.usefulware.com.
They used to distribute MacWeb
2.0 in their low-cost Macintosh package. They since have moved to
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The oldest Mac I have tested MacWeb 2.0 on was my SE/30 with 8
Mb RAM
running System 7.1. It worked fine, but so did Netscape and MSIE.
The TradeWave page says that MacWeb 2.0 "Requires System 7 and
MacTCP
2.0.2 or higher". No other requirements are given.
MacWeb 2.0 is being distributed with newsstand copies of Macworld
Magazine
this month in a freebie CD Rom. It's the "February" issue.
I suspect it's going to be the first and the last time MacWeb 2.0
is going
to be offered for free this way so snag it while you can.
There is no shareware notice with it so I suspect as far as people
who get
the February '97 Macworld issue are concerned it's freeware.
Take care,

For Classic Macs list:
I am trying to configure a Mac Plus into the most useful Internet
system
possible for a friend. I tried System 7.5.5 with FreePPP 2.5v2.
This did not work.
Is there a "conventional wisdom" on the best components for a Mac
Plus
these days?
I need to know:
System version
PPP type and version
Eudora version
Web browser type and version
Newsreader type and version
and anything else that might be relelvant.
Sorry if this is a FAQ -- I've done some exploring and have not
found the
answer!
Best wishes,
Larry
I have a Mac 512e and I was wondering if there was an easy way to
hook
it up to a new Macintosh Performa 6205CD.
I am also wondering if anybody out there has some old mac games. I
am
looking for a few to add to my old mac.
Question, guys --
The specs on the box say that the Stylewriter 1200 requires an
020
processor, but is it possible to run it on a plain Mac Classic?
4/80
running System 7.
Thanks.
I'm using MacWeb on a power mac right now and I really love it!
And the
fact that I can use it on *any* of my macs. Sure no Java, but
tables,
forms...spiffy for under 3 MB. And fast fast fast. My ISP gives out
an
old version to subscribers, which is how I first heard about MacWeb.
I
was so happy to see the new version come in the mail on that Media
Jam
CD. Three cheers for an alternative!

Anyone have any recommendations for web-surfing w/ AOL and 4M RAM
on
classic macs (the Classic or an SE)?
I have MacWeb; is there a way to configure it to work with AOL v.
2.6 or 2.7
(and System 7.0.1)?
I'll be glad to summarize for the list any answers sent to me directly.
Thanks.

No reason why not, with the right software.
Who knows about software for Email and browsing that would run

Browsing shouldn't be a problem if you have a direct/ISP
connection to the
internet. I'm still checking into whether MacWeb can be made to work
with my
AOL connection.
(I do not want to put System 7 on the Mac as it only has 4 Megs
of
RAM). Does Mac Web 1.1.1 run on System 6 ?
My experience (with a Mac Classic and the nearly equivalent Mac
SE, each with
4M RAM) is that system 7.0.1, at least, runs just fine on those
machines...and, in many ways, runs better than 6.0.x.

Does anyone know where I can order a battery for my MacPlus
online? I can't
seem to find one locally. Thanks.
Have you tried a camera shop (a good one). That is where I've gotten them before.
